The Bauhaus in Thuringia


The design revolution began 90 years ago – in the town of Weimar in Thuringia. The Bauhaus, the most important and most influential school of design of the 20th century, was founded by Walter Gropius in Weimar in 1919.

In 2009 all eyes will be on Weimar, the Weimarer Land region, Jena and Erfurt as the focal points during the Bauhaus jubilee. In Thuringia the birth of the avantgarde school whose global influence continues to this day will be remembered with impressive exhibitions and outstanding events.

The Bauhaus – a cultural and political sensation closely connected with the founding of the Weimar Republic in Weimar – and its protagonists will be placed centre stage at a range of magnificent shows in numerous locations in Weimar, the Weimarer Land region, Jena and Erfurt.
